Is Classic Notepad free?
Yes. It is free, with no account, no ads and no paid tier.
Where are my notes saved?
In this browser's local storage, on your device. Notes are never uploaded to a server. Clearing your browser's site data deletes them, so use File › Save to keep a .txt copy of anything important.
Does it work on a Mac, a Chromebook or a phone?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser, so it works on Windows, macOS, Linux, ChromeOS, iOS and Android. Keyboard shortcuts accept Ctrl or ⌘.
Is this the real Windows Notepad?
No. It is an independent web recreation of the classic Notepad's look and behavior, and is not affiliated with Microsoft.
Can I open and save .txt files?
Yes. File › Open loads a .txt file from your computer, and File › Save downloads the current note as a .txt file.
